Sizing & How to Measure Yourself for your Garment Rental

Finding the perfect fit means you’ll feel confident and comfortable - and we’re here to help every step of the way.

  • We know it can be confusing - every brand sizes a little differently, and sometimes the number on the tag doesn’t tell the full story.

That’s why at The Style Archives, we go beyond just listing a standard size. On each product page, you’ll find:

    • Size: with the official label size
    • Flexible Size: to let you know if the piece can fit a range of sizes (e.g. size 10–12)
    • Additional Notes on Sizing: to help you understand how the garment sits on the body and any addition things to consider.
  • Some garments may technically be a size 10, but thanks to elastic backs, wrap styles, or generous cuts, they may comfortably fit sizes 8 - 12. That’s where our Flexible Sizing label helps take the guesswork out.

  • We want you to feel confident choosing a piece that works for your shape, so if you’re unsure just message us or book a try-on! We’re always happy to help you find your best fit.

  • Some designs may be better suited to certain body shapes. Fit out more about body shapes.

  • Knowing your measurements is the key to renting with confidence - and it’s easier than you might think!

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you measure yourself accurately at home.

  • What You’ll Need:

    • A soft measuring tape
    • A mirror (full-length if possible)
    • Fitted clothing or underwear
    • A notepad or your phone to jot down your numbers
    • If you have someone who can take your measurements for you, even better!

Bust

Stand naturally and wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust.

Make sure the tape is straight and snug, but not tight - it should sit flat against your body.

Keep the tape parallel to the ground and don’t hold your breath.

Tip: It helps to do this in front of a mirror or have someone assist you for the most accurate measurement.

Waist

Find your natural waistline - it’s the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button.

Stand up straight but relaxed. Wrap the tape around your waist without sucking in.

Again, keep the tape snug but not squeezing.

Hips

Stand with your feet together and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips and bum.

This is typically about 20cm below your waist, but it varies depending on your proportions.

Make sure the tape stays level all the way around.

Shoulder to Hem (Dress Length)

Start at the top of your shoulder, right beside your neck.

Measure down over your bust to where you want the dress to end (e.g. above the knee, mid-calf, etc.).

Compare this with the garment’s listed length to see how it will sit on your body.

  • Take your measurements twice to be sure - it’s easy to be a few cm off.

If you're in between sizes, consider whether the fabric has stretch or structure.

Look at our "Flexible Sizing" and "Additional Notes" on each product page to see if a style might work across multiple sizes.

Still unsure? Send us your measurements and we’ll help recommend the best size for you!
